Dragon Saab are proud to announce our first event of 2014, The Dragon Saab ‘Spring Roll’

The Spring Roll will take place Sunday April 6th.

The ‘Spring Roll’ is a rally/tour of Cardiff  and the Vale of Glamorgan.

The event will start with those attending meeting at Cardiff West motorway services M4 Junction 33. We will be meeting at 9.30am to leave 10.00am.

Leaving the services we will travel in convoy along the A4232 to Cardiff Bay via Penarth headland where we will be rewarded by a panoramic view of Cardiff and the bay area. At Penarth headland we will make our way to the barrage. At the barrage we have special permission to cross over the barrage in convoy. This will be a unique experience as the barrage is closed to all other vehicles so it will be exclusively Saab’s on the 1.1km road to our very own parking area. This area has fantastic 360 degree views of Cardiff Bay and Penarth. It will be a great photo opportunity!

Cars wishing to cross the barrage will need to register by emailing drivers name and car registration number to Martyn Lyons mplsab@hotmail.com

From our Saab exclusive parking area, we have easy access on foot to Cardiff Bay and the Dr Who Experience. At this point you will have the option of either attending a 1 hour tour of the exhibition or taking a tour on foot of Cardiff Bay. Alternatively if anyone wishes to stay at the car park with the vehicles this is absolutely fine. We do advise that you bring a warm windproof jacket and jumper as it can get very windy at the barrage.

Cardiff Bay

Back into the cars we commence our tour back across the barrage and complete a loop of the Cardiff Marina. From the marina we climb up into Penarth before dropping down to Penarth seafront and the impressive art deco Penarth Pier. Leaving Penarth front we continue along the coast road passing through Sully and Barry.

From Barry we head to Rhoose and Cardiff Wales Airport. At the airport we take the coast road that skirts the perimeter of the airport and if we are lucky we will be rewarded with the view of an aircraft coming into land or taking off in close proximity.

On from the airport we travel through Sully and Aberthawe before passing RAF St Athan, a WWII aircraft base.  Past the base we head further along the coast, passing Llantwit Major and Southerndown which provides some stunning views of the Severn Estuary and Jurassic coast line.

southerndown

After Southerndown we reach the beautiful Ogmore by Sea. Ogmore is our next stop where everyone can stretch their legs, use the conveniences and have an ice cream stop if they wish.

Leaving Ogmore we follow Ogmore river inland towards Ewenny. The B4524 provides a great view of the ruins of the 12th century Ogmore Castle and Merthyr Mawr sand dunes.

At Ewenny we cut through picturesque Corntown village before joining the A48 to Cowbridge. Cowbridge is at the heart of the Vale of Glamorgan and is a bustling town centre with the high street cutting from north to south of the town. We will take a detour off the A48 and through the town centre, it will no doubt be a real spectacle for residents and visitors of the town to see so many Saabs passing through in convoy!

From Cowbridge we travel to our penultimate stop at Dyffryn House and Botanical Gardens. The Dyffryn estate is a National Trust property and has an amazing 19th Century house and ornamental gardens. The estate is worthy of a full days visit as there’s lots to see with tours of the house and the different themed gardens. We have free entry to visit the café area and to use the conveniences. However to visit the house and gardens there is an entry fee for which we’ve negotiated a discounted price.

Leaving Dyffryn Gardens we pick up the A48 towards Culverhouse Cross. At Culverhouse Cross we head towards Wenvoe to complete the days tour at The Wenvoe Arms where we finish with a late lunch. The Wenvoe Arms is a traditional 18th Century village pub with great food and a fine selection of local ales. We have reserved an area in the pub and there’s ample parking.

The menu for lunch is as follows, can everyone attending please let Martin Lyons mplsab@hotmail.com know their choices ASAP.

Roast beef or pork Sunday roast.
Home made lasagne.
Scampi.
Home made curry.
Home made steak and ale pie.
Cheese and bacon burger.

If there are any vegetarian requirements or special dietary needs then again please advise ASAP.

Dragon Saab look forward to seeing you on the 6th April.
